Windjammer Festival: USS Normandy Tours Information

By Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce | Sep 01, 2012

If you are interested in taking a tour of the USS Normandy (moored off Curtis Island for the Camden Windjammer Festival), the Navy will be offering tours to anyone 8 years old and older from 10am-12pm and 1pm-4pm this Saturday and Sunday. Tenders will leave from the Cannell Page floats off Atlantic Avenue in Camden (by Harbor Park).

Visitors to the ship should wear sensible, flat, closed heel shoes and adults should be prepared to show ID. Do not bring large bags or backpacks. Vistors should be prepared to wait to board a tender as everyone will be required to pass through a metal detector and have purses etc x-rayed.

Visits are on a first come, first serve basis and involve a 20 minute boat trip from the dock to the inner harbor, boarding from a relatively narrow float, and touring a vessel exposed to swell and ocean movement, so it is recommended that people prone to motion sickness or sensitivity to somewhat unsteady footing avoid visiting the ship.

Caveats aside, the USS Normandy is looking forward to welcoming Windjammer Festival attendees aboard Saturday and Sunday from 10am-12pm, and from 1pm to 4pm.
