Winterport — A 13-year-old Winterport boy is in stable, but serious condition after being struck by a pickup truck late in the afternoon of Aug. 20.

The boy was riding his bicycle on Whig Street in Winterport at about 4:37 p.m. when he was struck by a 2005 Ford F-150 driven by Andrew Ginn, Chief Deputy Jeff Trafton of the Waldo County Sheriff's Office said.

Ginn told officers he saw two boys riding their bicycles on Whig Street and moved his vehicle over into the left lane when the 13-year-old bicyclist suddenly turned into the path of the truck.

Ginn attempted to stop, but was unable to avoid colliding with the 13-year-old, Trafton said.

The boy was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, where he was listed in stable, but serious condition as of 1 a.m. Aug. 21, Trafton said.

Trafton did not believe charges would be filed against Ginn. The accident is still under investigation.

“There was no indication of alcohol or drug use,” Trafton said.
