Belfast — A Winterport man was ordered serve six years in prison with all but nine months suspended and will be on probation for another 12 years upon his release after admitting to accusations that he sexually abused a young boy over the course of about four years.

David A. Hyatt, 74, of Winterport, was ordered to serve that sentence at a hearing in Waldo County Superior Court earlier this week, according to court records.

A Waldo County grand jury indicted Hyatt on 15 counts of unlawful sexual contact and one count of visual sexual aggression against a child in August of last year. According to the indictment, the alleged abuse occurred in Winterport in June 2006, when Hyatt was 66 years old, and continued throughout that nearly four-year span.

Court records do not specify the exact age of the victim.

On the singular count of visual sexual aggression against a child, court documents stated Hyatt either exposed his genitals to the boy and/or caused the boy to expose his own genitals during an incident in May 2010.
