School News: Schools begin Wed. Aug. 27, for grades K thru 9 and Thurs. Aug. 28 for 10 - 12. Any student transferring from another district area welcome to come on Wed. Aug. 27. Welcome to Wagner Night-- 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tues. Aug 26th. This is for all students and family members who will be attending Wagner for the first time this fall. This includes 5th graders, students who have moved into town, great the teachers, tour the school, find their assigned lockers and practice opening them. Volunteers are welcome! Parent organizations and volunteers are very important in the school system. From stuffing envelopes, assisting with field trip supervision, organizing major fundraisers, volunteers make a difference. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer please contact your local school for more information, With schools opening, watch for the flashing red lights on the school buses. You must stop either way the bus is traveling and this includes the school yards during drop off and pick ups. Do Not Pass the Bus. Fines are costly and cell phones are every where. Town Office News: one-half of your tax bills are due by Sept. 15th. Interest will start on the 16th of Sept. Phyllis Frkuska-Heeren of Winterport was voted Teacher of the Year for Waldo County. Phylis is a teacher in Northport. Congratulations! Town News: WABA will be having a Pot Luck at 6:00 p.m. at Pairings on Sept 11th. At that time they will be presenting Winterport Fire and Rescue with a check from the Pants on Fire Race. Business people from around the area are invited to attend . Ellingwoods Corner United Methodist Church, Route 69 and Monroe Road, will be having the Thrift Store open from 9 am to noon and 4 pm to 6 pm. There are many new items in. Bean Supper from 4 pm-6pm. Great Northern and Navy Beans, Hot dogs, salads, deserts, Brown Bread and Corn Bread. Baked Ham! Children under 7 are free. Ages 7 and up $8.00 each. Call Melinda for info. 989-2989. A successful Free Lunch program held at the Smith School this summer was well attended. Students came to eat, socialize and play . Plans are to have the program again next summer.
