The Winterport Woman's Club GFWC (General Federation of Women's Clubs) met Wednesday, Sept. 12 , at Anglers Restaurant to celebrate the 80th birthday of the club. President Kathy White welcomed those attending and called it a night of recognition for the club's achievements and for those in our community who have been in constant support to the organization and recognizing all that the community has done that makes the club's volunteer work so worthwhile.

An overview of the club's projects and programs was also given by White. Teddy Weston did a recap of the history of the club. Judge Susan Longley can be seen around town these days. She is Waldo County's Probate Judge, and is bicycling door-to-door across the county to ask for our support for her re-election. In addition to bicycling door-to-door, Monday, Oct. 22, from 6-8 p.m., Longley also will be in Winterport with one of her countywide "Probate Basics" presentations, free of charge to all, to be held at the Victoria Grant Civic Center. Though she cannot provide legal advice, she can provide information on such probate matters as power of attorney, wills, guardianship, conservalorship etc. To help people digest matters, she brings along a batch of homemade chocolate chip cookies and coffee and tea to the presentations.

By the time this paper comes out the paving will be going on, either on Marine and Holmes streets or the North Road.
