The Wagner Middle School girls' basketball team defeated the Orono Middle School Thursday, Jan. 31, in the Penobscot Valley Middle Leagues B-flight championship game. This is the second year in a row the Wagner girls have won the championship. Congrats, girls and coach.
The eighth-graders have started to plan for their trip to Boston in June. They have planned a couple of fundraisers, including selling Little Caesar's Pizza Kits, from now until the end of February vacation, as well as a couple of bottle drives. An account has been set up at JCM Redemption for anyone who would like to help out by taking their returnables there and asking them to put the money into the Wagner eighth-grade fund. For more information about either of these two fundraisers, call the school at 223-4309 .
A meeting was held last week at the Wagner Middle School to talk about the possibility of Frankfort students transferring to SAD 22 in the near future. Frankfort will be meeting in March to see if the people want to come. If they do, then Winterport, Newburgh and Hampden will vote April 9 to see if they will be accepted. The voting in Winterport will take place at the Town Office from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. I will remind you next month.
Community gathering
There will be a community gathering at the Ellingwoods Corner United Methodist Church, Route 69, Saturday, Feb. 9, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a free baked ham lunch at 11 a.m. The event benefits the church, as it helps with their expenses. Free hot coffee all day, too.
