Lincolnville — A Lincolnville woman escaped injury Monday morning, Dec. 30, after her car burst into flames on Hope Road.

Katheryn Dinsmore was driving a late model Ford Focus on Hope Road heading toward Lincolnville Center when the passenger compartment began to fill with smoke. Dinsmore stopped the car just past Lincolnville Central School and escaped before the vehicle burst into flames.

A passerby saw the car on fire and stopped at a nearby house and called 911. Lincolnville Fire Department responded to the scene within a matter of minutes, but the car was fully engulfed by the time crews arrived.

Hope Road -- Route 235 -- was closed to through traffic for approximately 40 minutes while emergency crews cleaned up and a tow truck removed the car.
