Belfast — A Jackson woman sustained broken bones in her leg after a car struck her as she was crossing the intersection of Congress Street and Route 1 Monday morning, Dec. 17.

According to the accident report from the Belfast Police Department, 48-year-old Laurie Bernosky of Jackson had started crossing Route 1, turned around in the median and began walking back toward Congress Street.

Meanwhile, 33-year-old Sara Littlefield of Northport was driving northbound in her 2002 Ford SUV as Bernosky was entering the roadway.

The responding officer, Patrolman Mike Rolerson, said Bernosky was transported by Belfast ambulance to Waldo County General Hospital and was later transferred to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.
