Young hired to be Damariscotta's top cop
Former Lincolnville Police Chief Ronald Young has found a new department to lead — he recently accepted the chief of police position in Damariscotta.
A tentative contract has been agreed upon and will be finalized after the completion of a physical and psychological evaluation, he said.
Young served residents in the town of Lincolnville beginning in February 2008 until the town dissolved the department in June. Besides his two decades in law enforcement, he also served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1987 to 1992, participating in Operation Desert Storm.
He plans to relocate his family to the Damariscotta area and said he is looking forward to the opportunity for a fresh start.
“The biggest challenge will be the moving, getting the kids enrolled at Lincoln Academy etc,” said Young in an email. “I am very excited about the position, to have five full-time officers, a full-time department and the great morale there. They seem to really love their police department. My family is very excited too.”
Young said the amount of time he dedicated to the community of Lincolnville is desired by Damariscotta officials as well, an ideal that appeals to him.
“I looking forward to the new challenge and working with the community. I hit it off immediately with the residents on the citizen’s interview,” he said. “They were very excited about all that I did for Lincolnville and are excited for me to do that there.”
Young said, much like in Lincolnville, he is excited to dedicate time in local schools to build relationships with the youth of the area.
“I look forward to the visiting with the seniors, involvement with the schools and kids. I am really looking forward too it," he said.
Young’s first day on the job is slated for the first of September. He will replace Chad Andrews, who served as Damariscotta police chief during the last two years. Andrews will remain a member of the department as deputy police chief.
