Young Mustangs look to swing into win column
Thorndike — The following is a synopsis of the 2014 Mount View High School softball team:
Coach/years coached current team: Chris Downing, first year.
Last year's record/playoff information: 0-16, 19th in Eastern Class B. The Mustangs failed to qualify for the playoffs.
Roster: Seniors Alex Fowler (infield) and Emily English (first base); juniors Dinah Bilodeau (pitcher), Kersey Boulay (catcher), Lindsay Morong (outfield) and Kayla Wilson (outfield); sophomores Krysta Porter (pitcher, infield, outfield) and Brittany Dugal (infield); and freshmen Kristen Allen (pitcher, outfield), Reanna Boulay (infield, outfield), Ashley Kiernan (pitcher, first base), Taylor Shunk (infield), Sierra Fonger (outfield), Halle Reynolds (catcher, outfield), Allie Kennedy (outfield) and Natalee Pyle (designated hitter, outfield).
Known graduation losses: Abbie Charrier and Alyss Crocker.
Significant impact players: Bilodeau, Kersey Boulay, Porter and Fowler.
Team strengths: Pitching, commitment, youth and desire to always improve.
Team goal: To improve on last year's performance.
Top league opponents: Oceanside of Rockland/Thomaston.
Outlook: The Mustangs should have no trouble improving on last year's performance as the team went winless in 2013, but it lost only two players to graduation. Thus, several players will return after having gained key experience, notably Bilodeau, who will be a key cog for the Thorndike-base team this spring.
Kersey Boulay also should shine behind the plate, while Fowler could emerge as one of the league's best hitters.
