Community Wind on Maine's Islands

Community Happenings
Date: Nov 12, 2009
Time: 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM

George Baker, vice president for community wind at the Island Institute and CEO of Fox Island Wind will discuss "Lessons from an Early Win on Vinalhaven and North Haven" at the Gulf of Maine Research Institute, 350 Commercial St. Baker will discuss the planning, development, and financing of the community wind project on the Fox Islands. This is the first project in the state (and one of the first in the country) that is entirely planned, developed, controlled and owned by the community, with 100 percent of the benefits flowing back to the community through lower electric prices. The community involvement and the financing are both unique, and could be a replicable model for other communities to follow. Part of the free Sea State Lecture Series. FMI and to register: Patty Collins at 228-1625.
