A Waldo County Sheriff’s office cruiser and a Belfast Police cruiser were involved in separate crashes this week.

On Jan. 3 at about 6 p.m., Deputy Dan Thompson was turning into a driveway on the Shibles Road in Knox when he was hit by an all-terrain vehicle driven by 69-year-old Bernard Thomas.

No one was injured, but Thomas was charged by Maine State Police Trooper Ryan Brockway for operating an ATV on a public way and operating an unregistered ATV, according to state police.

Damage to the cruiser was estimated at about $2,000, Waldo County Sheriff Chief Deputy Bob Keating said.

On Jan. 5, shortly after noon, a Belfast cruiser was stopped in front of the police station on Church Street. As the officer was giving directions to another motorist, a truck backed out of a parking spot and hit the cruiser, according to Belfast Police Chief Jeff Trafton. About $800 in damage was done to the cruiser’s bumper.
