Future MSAD 3 (Future) has announced a new $4,000 matching gift for the fund drive supporting the ground work for future athletic enhancements at the new K-12 Mount View School in Thorndike.

The gift, from an anonymous donor, will match dollar-for-dollar, all contributions up to $4,000 for the campaign to fund water and electrical conduit for Mount View’s new and existing athletic fields, and water, power and sewer lines to a planned outdoor concessions building.

Contributions to both First Things First and The Heritage Fund will be matched, since both funds support the campaign for Mount View athletic enhancements.

According to Alicia J. Nichols, Future campaign director, “The donor did not graduate from Mount View, nor do they have children at the school, but they understand how important athletics are for youth development and want to do something for future generations.”

“The Future board is tremendously grateful for this donor’s generosity,” said Nichols.

“When no one else would fund the basic infrastructure for the athletic complex, Future took a leap of faith and said, ‘We’ll do it, we’ll find a way.’ We’re building a dedicated team of funders for this project, and this $4,000 match will encourage others — Mount View alumni, parents, grandparents, coaches, faculty and staff to give what they can, with the knowledge their support will be doubled,” Nichols said.

First Things First is the initial phase of a capital campaign for Mount View athletics. Future MSAD 3 (Future) must raise $80,000 as soon as possible to support the infrastructure needed to be in place first — before any other athletic enhancements are added. To date $44,611 has been raised in contributions and pledges. Future will continue the First Things First campaign until the goal is met.

Funds raised through First Things First support areas not covered by the state or the district and provides water and electrical conduit to new and existing athletic fields, and water, power and sewer lines to a planned outdoor concessions building.

While a new, permanent outdoor concessions building to include athletic storage areas and public rest rooms will be funded later during a major capital campaign, Future is now raising funds for the building’s utilities that have already been put in place and capped — water, power and sewer.

Specific utilities funded by First Things First include:

• Water and electrical conduit to the high school athletic fields, including baseball, field hockey, and two soccer fields, the new track, and multi-purpose field inside the new track.

• Electrical conduit for lights at the multi-purpose field, at the track for a FinishLynx electronic timing system, and for a new scoreboard for football, soccer, and track.

• Water and electrical conduit, and a sewer line to the planned concessions building site.

Future MSAD 3 is a non-profit organization run by a board of 17 community volunteers. Their mission is to raise funds to enhance particular areas in the new Mount View School complex not covered by state funding.

When additional athletic fields for track, soccer and football at the new Mount View were designed, the plan did not include water or electricity for either the new or existing fields, including field hockey, baseball, and softball. The First Things First campaign is funding the infrastructure that was installed this past summer when the old Mount View was torn down and the site was under construction. This project is the initial phase of a major capital campaign for Mount View’s athletic and recreational facilities.
