The Belfast Bay Watershed Coalition will hold a winter snowshoe/ski/potluck outing on Saturday, Jan. 9. Participants should meet at 10 a.m. at the home of Cloe Chunn and David Thanhauser, 210 Oak Hill Road, Swanville.

Snowshoers will trek along Wescott Stream looking for resident birds. Those with cross-country skis can travel on a five-mile loop through woods and along old roads.

Afterwards everyone is invited to an indoor lunch potluck at noon. Bring a dish to share. Everyone is invited. Those who wish to forgo the outside activities are also welcome and should arrive at noon. For directions and parking, call 338-1147.

Wear protective winter gear, bring snowshoes or skis, extra warm clothing, sunscreen and water. The event is free and open to the public.

The Belfast Bay Watershed Coalition plans regular outings to familiarize the public with the beauty and unusual features of the Belfast Bay’s watershed, as well as neighboring conservation properties.

The watershed covers 69,657 acres and is comprised of four smaller watersheds: the Little River, the Passawassawakeag River, the Wescott Stream and the Goose River. It includes all or parts of Brooks, Frankfort, Knox, Morrill, Northport, Searsport, Swanville and Waldo, as well as the City of Belfast.
