Frederick D. “Butch” Winship, 62, died unexpectedly Jan. 6, 2010, at his home.

Born in Bath on July 21, 1947, he was the son of Ralph and Edna Rich Winship. He grew up in the Bath/Brunswick area.

During his life Butch lived throughout coastal Maine, from Belfast to Portland.

Butch was a member of VFW Men’s Auxiliary Post No. 3108 in Belfast, and Sons of the American Legion Post No. 1 in Rockland and Post No. 43 in Belfast.

He enjoyed collecting “oddities” and often visited Wink’s Swap Shop.

Adopted at a young age, Butch was predeceased by his siblings, Alice Ward, Ralph Pratt Jr., Sylvia Radley, Richard Hanson, Willard Radley and Ralph Radley.

He is survived by two brothers, Calvin L. Hartzell Sr. and his companion Rosemary Eaton of Rockland and Charles A. Radley and his wife, Nancy, of Freeport; three sisters, Gloria Santamore and her companion Milton Clark of Belfast, E. Louise Skillings of Belfast and Ruth Fillmore of Freeport; his companion of 20 years, Victoria Tullo of Rockland; as well as many nieces and nephews.

No services are planned at this time. Private interment will be in the Burr Cemetery in Freeport.

Arrangements are with the Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home in Rockland.
