Lawrence Richards, 85, died Jan. 13, 2010, at Birchwood Square at Cranford Health in Cranford, N.J..

Born and raised in Belfast, he served in the Navy during World War II and moved to South Plainfield when he was discharged in 1951.

For 25 years Larry worked for Johnson & Johnson in New Brunswick, N.J., as an electrician and was a member of the Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union Local 169.

He loved to fish and travel, and visited every state, including a three-month trip through Alaska.

A jack-of-all-trades, he was the neighborhood “Mr. Fix-It,” and for 25 years he was a member of the Watchung Council Boy Scouts. He was also active in the Belfast Grange.

He was predeceased by his wife, Eileen Richards; a son, Ralph; a sister, Doris Kinney, and a brother, Linwood.

He is survived by a loving daughter, Betty Ann Richards, of South Plainfield, N.J., and many loving friends.

Relatives and friends will gather Saturday, Jan. 16, for visitation services beginning at 9 a.m. in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Scotch Plains, N.J., followed by a 10 a.m. church service.

Interment will follow at Lake Nelson Memorial Park, Piscataway, N.J..
