Caroline Rebecca (James) Ellis, 86, died January 13, 2010, at her home, with her loving family by her side, after a long struggle with inflammatory breast cancer.

She was born in Belfast June 7, 1923, a daughter of James Henry and Blanche (Clark) James. Caroline outlived her four sisters and six brothers.

She enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, sewing, traveling, shopping, spending time with her friends and most of all, spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Caroline is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Bernard Bridges Jr., of Verona Island; a son, Michael Ellis of Searsport; three grandchildren, Carol Hutchins-Bradley of Livermore Falls, Barrett Bridges of Verona Island and Shyla Ashtyn Ellis of North Carolina; three step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents and siblings, she was predeceased by a son, Gordon Roberts.

At Caroline’s request a graveside service will be held in the spring.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions to help defray the cost of a grave marker be sent to Shirley Bridges, 7 Bridges Road, Verona Island, ME 04416.
