Mary Elizabeth Lennon, 70, died Jan. 19, 2010, at Tall Pines Nursing Home after a long and courageous struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Mary was born July 30, 1939, in Pueblo, Colo., the daughter of Betty and Robert Scott. Raised in Denver, she was employed as a flight attendant for American Airlines for eight years based in New York City.

After a period of 12 years spent raising her three daughters, Mary began a second career in Atlanta as a realtor. She retired to Northport with her husband, Ed, in 1999, moving to Belfast in 2004.

Mary had the opportunity to travel most of the world with her family, and the sensitivity to see beauty in everything. She was a gourmet cook and loved to entertain. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Edward Lennon, of Belfast; three daughters Jennifer Petritz and her husband, William, of Atlanta, Elizabeth Leatherbury and her husband, Edward, of Charleston, S.C., and Victoria Dettwiler and her husband, Blake, of Atlanta; and five grandchildren Sophia Petritz, Annelise Petritz, Genevieve Petritz, Mary Grace Leatherbury and James Leatherbury.

Following cremation, a memorial service will be held in the late spring at First Baptist Church, Belfast, with interment at Grove Cemetery.
