Scoring has not been a problem for the Midcoast Ice Cats this year.

The cooperative high school ice hockey team continued the season with another offensive explosion against the Cony Rams of Augusta jayvee squad Jan. 21 to earn a 9-3 win at the Midcoast Recreation Center.

The ‘Cats were led by Yannick Price-Prevot of Medomak Valley, who netted five goals. Stephen Hand of Camden Hills had two goals and three assists and Kenny Schreimreif of Medomak Valley and Tyler Hadyniak of Mount View each had one goal. Jacob Perry of Rockland and Kerry Madden of Rockland each had two assists and McKinley Schroeder of Belfast added an assist.

Scoring for the Rams were Dallas Clark (2 assists), Chris Murphy and Tyler Leet. Ryan Sournier also picked up an assist.

The Ice Cats (7-3-2) outshot Cony 14-3 in the first period and jumped to a 3-0 lead with two goals by Price-Prevot and one by Hand. Despite being outshot by the Rams in the second period 9-6, the ‘Cats extended their lead to 5-1 when Schreimreif and Hand found the back of the net.

Cony managed two more goals in the final period, but the Ice Cats held a decided edge in the offensive zone while recording a season-high, single-period 23 shots. Price-Prevot scored three times in the period and Hadyniak added one last marker in the waning moments to close the books on a dominating 9-3 win.

Parker Spear of Rockland was the winning goalie as he stopped 14 shots, including a penalty shot in the second period.

The final home game of the season was scheduled for Monday, Jan. 25 versus the Lawrence jayvees.
