Jean H. O’Brien, 73, died at a Bangor hospital surrounded by her loving family Jan. 19, 2010.

She was born Dec. 15, 1936, in Bucksport, a daughter of Leon and Zilla (Stubbs) Gifford Sr. Jean graduated from Bucksport High School with the class of 1955. In 1961 she married the love of her life, Virgil G. O’Brien, and settled in Searsport, where they lived happily for 48 years.

She was a loving mother, wife and homemaker. She also was employed by Penobscot Frozen Food and shucked clams for many years. Her hobbies were camping, boating, and digging clams. She also loved spending time with her loving family and special dogs, Spike and Dylan.

She was predeceased by a brother, Leon Gifford Jr., a sister, Ethel Beaucage; her parents; and her mother-in-law, Laverne Forrest.

Jean is survived by her loving husband, Virgil; six children, Kevin O’Brien of Searsport, Danny O’Brien and his girlfriend, Angie, of Rockland, Lisa Garzarelli and her husband, Gary, of Bucksport,  Diane O’Brien and her boyfriend, Scott Gomm, of Verona, Michael O’Brien Sr. and his wife, Wendy, of Frankfort, Laura O’Brien and her boyfriend, Preston Grendell Jr., of Searsport; eight grandchildren, Michael Jr., Matthew, Elizabeth, Melinda, Jessica, Christopher, Shawn, Dakota; a great-grandchild, Sylas; a brother, Marshal Gifford, of Bucksport, two sisters, Alice Lanpher of Verona, and Marion Soper of Florida; a brother-in-law, Dennis O’Brien Sr., of Searsport; and many nieces and nephews.

She was a very loving wife and mother. She will be very dearly missed.

Per Jean’s wishes there will be no services.
