Robert I. Carr, 92, also of Ellsworth, died Jan. 24, 2010, at a Mount Desert Island health care facility.

He was born in Bar Harbor Feb. 12, 1917, the son of James Arthur and Charlotte (Leighton) Carr.

Robert served in the Army during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion in Bar Harbor, Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Church of Bar Harbor, Bar Harbor Police Reserve and was a member of the Odd Fellows. He was also a caretaker for the Town Office and Legion Hall, and a janitor for the Blue Nose for a number of years.

He is survived by three daughters, Beverly Anderson and her husband, Thomas, of Ellsworth, Mary Silk of Bar Harbor and Barbara Downs and her husband, Lance, of Brooks; a son, Robert Carr, and his wife, Patricia, of Milford; 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, James W. Carr, and his wife, Nellie, of South Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Corinne T. (Buskee) Carr; and two sisters, Beverly and Madeline.

A spring graveside service will be held at Ledgelawn Cemetery in Bar Harbor. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to a charity of choice.
