Whitney Lantz, daughter of Mike and Carien Lantz is the 2009 recipient of the Monroe Odd Fellows and Rebekah Scholarship, which was presented jointly by Monroe Lodge 136 and Loyal Rebekah Lodge 92. Whitney is a 2009 graduate of Mount View High School in Thorndike. She was involved in chorus and journalism I, II and III. She also wrote for the school paper for three years.

Lantz helped at the Belfast YMCA and volunteered at church and youth group UCS in Unity. Her hobbies are swimming, writing and singing. She is presently employed at Hannaford in Belfast.

She is attending the University of Maine. Her first year is at the Hutchinson Center in Belfast, where she is taking social work and liberal arts courses. Her future plans and goals are to earn her master’s degree in social work and have her own practice.

The Independent Order of Odd Fellows and Rebekahs is a  fraternal organization, which works for the betterment of mankind through many charitable activities. In Waldo County there are lodges in Monroe, Searsport and Winterport.
