Shirley Banks Waltz, 81, died with her family by her side Jan. 31, 2010.

Born in Searsmont Sept. 7, 1928, she was a daughter of Willis and Carrie (Stickney) Banks.

She moved to Damariscotta in 1943, and graduated from Lincoln Academy in 1945. During the war, she worked for Western Union and was also the secretary for the county attorney, Charles Giles, until his death.

She later worked at Pine Grove Drive-In for many years as a cook, and did catering out of her own home. She was a member of the Damariscotta Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Waldo W. Waltz, of
Damariscotta; four children, Perry and his wife, Catherine, of
Damariscotta, Denise Morang of Damariscotta, Debra Benner and her husband, Darrell, of Newcastle and Scott Waltz of St. Petersburg, Fla.; six grandchildren, Josh Waltz, Matthew Waltz and his wife, Hanna, Kristie Clark and her husband, Bob, Kerry Wunder and her husband, Scott, Kayla Benner and Dylan Benner; four great-grandchildren, Bob Clark, Bailey Clark, Kortney Sheeder and Nathaniel Sheeder; a brother, Willis Banks Jr., of Belfast; and two sisters, Pauline Mann and Phyllis Lockwood, both of North Attleboro, Mass.

A time of visitation will be held Wednesday, Feb. 3, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main St., Damariscotta. A service will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest at the Hillside Cemetery in Damariscotta in the spring.
