It was senior day at the Midcoast Recreation Center Jan. 25 as the Midcoast Ice Cats, a cooperative high school ice hockey squad, prepared to play their final home game of the season.

After the game was delayed due to a power outage, the ‘Cats took a moment to honor McKinley Schroeder of Belfast and Morganne Price-Prevot of Medomak Valley, who would play in their final home game for the Ice Cats.

Certainly, the two left the rink with a smile after defeating the Lawrence jayvee of Fairfield for the second time this season, this time 7-3.

The Ice Cats are 8-3-2 on the season.

The Ice Cats’ offense was led by Yannick Price-Prevot, who scored four goals, followed by Stephen Hand of Camden Hills, Kenny Scheimreif of Medomak Valley and Tyler Hadyniak of Mount View with one each.

Hand had four assists and Scheimreif three. Also, Kyle Hadyniak of Mount View, Jacob Perry of Rockland and Schroeder each added an assist.

Parker Spear of Rockland played between the pipes for the ‘Cats.

Lawrence’s offense was provided by Jordan Nutting, Dalton Stewart and Jared Grenier with one point each. Luke Lawrence added an assist.

The Ice Cats finished the first period with a 2-1 lead. Yannick Price-Prevot scored first and Hand followed soon after. The ‘Cats doubled on the lead in the second period when Yannick Price-Prevot earned the hat trick with skilled handling close to the Lawrence goalie, sliding the puck into the back of the net. The ‘Cats’ 4-2 lead came with an 17-12 shot advantage.

The Bulldogs played more physically in the third period, but the ‘Cats remained in control to outshoot the Bulldogs 10-2.

Tyler Hadyniak put in a rebound off a Schroeder shot and Lawrence responded with its final goal when Grenier fired the puck past Spear.

Yannick Price Prevot netted his fourth goal and Scheimreif finished the scoring to give the ‘Cats a final win on their home ice.
