Belfast resident Mike McFadden III was officially sworn in as a member of the State Police Computer Crimes Unit Feb. 8.

Public Safety Commissioner Anne Jordan swore in McFadden and Frank Stepnick of South Portland as the newest CCU investigators at the Department of Public Safety Offices in Augusta.

McFadden and Stepnick are both veteran police officers. McFadden has worked for the Belfast Police Department for the past 19 years, and according to a DPS press release, Stepnick has been a member of the South Portland Police Department. He is also a former agent for the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency.

McFadden first joined the Belfast Police Department in 1991 as a part-time patrol officer, and the next year he became a full-time dispatcher. In 1995 he moved into a full-time patrol officer position, and in 2002, he started working as the department’s drug investigator.

Both McFadden and Stepnick were hired to join the CCU through the use of federal recovery act money, according to the DPS press release.
