Mary Elizabeth Opdahl, 98, died Feb. 11, 2010, at home.

She was born May 18, 1911, in Belfast. Mary graduated from Zion Bible School in Providence, R.I. in 1932, and she had always said that was the best three years of her life.

She was predeceased by her husband, Alexander Opdahl, whom she was married to for more than 70 years; her parents, John and Sadie Merry; a daughter in-law, Ruth Opdahl; three brothers, John, Earl and Ellewood Merry; and a brother in-law, Herman Robbins.

She is survived by a brother, Irvin Merry, and his wife, Faustina, of Belfast; three sisters, Ina Moultin of Knox, Millie Silvester and her husband, Lloyd, of Searsport and Ruth Robbins of Belfast.; three children, Delores Ruby and her husband, Frank, of Florida, Clifford Opdahl of New Brunswick, N.J., and Linda Gibbons of Swanville; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was very active in church and served as president of ladies’ groups both in Maine and New York. She catered weddings for many years, and especially enjoyed having friends and family in for dinner and some snacks after church, but always ended with a full-course meal. She was loved by everyone, and will be sadly missed.

Funeral services were held at Faith Temple Church of God in Belfast Feb. 16 with the Rev. Charles Hall officiating.
