Sidney E. “Sonny” Bailey, 59, died unexpectedly Feb. 14, 2010, leaving behind his loving family.

He was born in Knox July 16, 1950, the son of Freddie and Violet (Higgins) Bailey.

Sonny graduated from Mt. View High School in Thorndike, class of 1969. He and his wife, Donna, shared 38 wonderful years of marriage together.

Sonny had been self-employed as a dairy farmer for 39 years and was a great fan of John Deere tractors. He was also a member of the Freedom Fire department for 25 years.

He thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved teasing his grandchildren and spending time with his family and friends was his greatest joy.

He was predeceased by his mother.

Surviving Sonny are his loving wife, Donna; his children, Becky Furrow and her husband, Jody, of Freedom, Michael Bailey and his special friend, Kelly, of Knox and Janie Gerrish and her husband, Shane, of Searsmont; his father, Freddie Bailey, of Knox, a sister, Joyce Thompson, of Unity; and seven grandchildren, Mariah, Caleb, Faith, Caylee, Tayven, Alex and Cole.

Visiting hours will be 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, at Freedom Congregational Church, where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19. A gathering will follow after the service downstairs. Spring burial will occur at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Freedom.

The family would like to thank all of their friends and neighbors for all of the help and support during this very difficult time.
