Stillman A. “Red” Nickerson, 77, died Feb. 15, 2010.

He was born March 17, 1932, in Belfast, a son of Merle and Ivy (Robinson) Nickerson.

Red was raised in Belfast and graduated from Crosby High School in 1951. He served two years in the Army, stationed at Fort Riley, Kan., earning an honorable discharge in 1954.

Red retired from Central Maine Power Company in 1989, with more than 30 years’ service. Red was an avid sportsman, spending many summers as a third baseman for the Belfast Merchants, and was a dedicated Red Sox fan. He also loved breakfast at Just Barb’s and fishing off the Searsport docks with his many buddies.

He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Hazen; two sisters, Norma Dupont and Lois Calkins; a daughter, Sharon Elaine; and a son, Randy Hutchins.

Red is survived by his wife of 40 years, Viola C.; four daughters, Jane and her husband, Chuck Brown, of Hull, Texas, Susan Lessard of Hampden, Carole Deans McClure and her husband, Andy, of Belfast and Sharon Deans of Belfast; a daughter-in-law, Mary Lou Hutchins, of Swanville; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert; two sisters, Alice Moore and Patricia Marshall; several nieces and nephews.

Red was supported and cared for by the loving staff of Brewer Rehab and Living Center, special cousins Philip and Faith Thompson, and a special niece, Dianna Porter.

Services will be held Friday, Feb. 26 at 11 a.m. at the Searsport Full Gospel Church.
