With the terrible catastrophe in Port au Prince, the Unity Area Rotary Club has joined the clubs in the district to provide assistance to the people of Haiti. The Unity club has raised $4,900 to date, which is included in the $30,000 in donations and shelter boxes provided by the clubs within the district.

As part of an international organization, Rotary Clubs throughout the district have been working together to provide funding for medical and food supplies, in addition to having many Rotarians providing hands-on support in Haiti.

On Tuesday, March 2 at 5 p.m. the Unity Area Rotary Club will host a special presentation by Nate Nickerson at its regular meeting at Crosstrax, Depot Street. The meeting will begin with a social at 4:30 p.m., and at 5 p.m., Nickerson will give a presentation on his post-earthquake trips to Haiti.

Nickerson is the executive director of the Konbit Santé Cap-Haitien Health Partnership, which is a Maine-based volunteer partnership started in 2000 that works to save lives and improve health care in northern Haiti. Rather than developing a second, parallel health system, Konbit Santé works with the Haitian Ministry of Health and with Haitian colleagues to build capacity within the public system.
