The call this year for entries to the fifth annual Maine Photography Show has attracted Maine photographers like never before. The photographic images are all in and are with the show judge, John Paul Caponigro of Cushing. The MPS Committee, headed up this year by LeeAnn LeFleur, were encouraged with the high numbers and amazed at the consistently high quality of the images received.

In record-breaking all, 294 photographers entered the show with 756 images. Both of these figures beat the previous high totals of 225 photographers and 670 images in 2008.

“Caponigro has his work cut out for him,” said Norbert Leser of Camden, one of the original MPS committee members, who is in charge of image entries this year.

Caponigro is an artist, photographer, author and educator and is nationally respected as an authority on creativity in photography and fine digital printing. In 2002, he was named one of the 15 best artists of the past 30 years by Zoom Magazine and received the Fellow award from the Maine Arts Commission. To learn more about him and his work, visit

Sponsoring the MPS again this year are The FIRST Bank as lead sponsor, Boothbay Region Greenhouses, Portland Camera Club, the Capital Area Camera Club, Laddie Drucker and Boothbay Boat Sales. The Maine Photography Show is a production of the MPS Committee of the Boothbay Region Art Foundation.

The state-wide, judged exhibition will be open to the public April 17 through May 8 at the Boothbay Region Art Foundation Gallery, 1 Townsend Ave. For days and hours or for more information, visit
