Belfast is the home of Jim and Jo Wescott, father and stepmother of Seth Wescott. On Feb. 15, Seth won the second Olympic gold medal of his career in the snowboard cross event at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Seth, who also took gold in the event when it was first introduced at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy, is the reigning champ of the event.

While Seth himself is not from Belfast, it’s pretty impressive to have a Belfast connection through Jim and Jo. We enjoyed sitting down and talking with them this week and hearing what the Olympic experience was like for them, and what it was like to once again see Seth show himself to be the best in the world at what he does.

As Jim told us, “It’s wonderful to have a child who is living their passion and just takes such pleasure in it. To think that in circumstances like this he can flash back to his youth and think of the fun he was having there and how it fits into what he presently is doing in life is really great.”

We congratulate Seth on his achievement and hope he will be able to make a visit to Belfast to talk with school children about his accomplishments and the ability to make a living doing what he loves just as he did after his 2006 win.
