Maine Media Women will sponsor a presentation by “Angel Gabriel” author Warren Riess of Bristol, University of Maine’s research associate professor of history and marine sciences, Saturday, March 6, at the Mobius Center on Business Route 1. Networking and coffee will begin at 9:15 a.m. and the program will follow at 10:00 a.m.

Riess is stationed at Darling Marine Center in Walpole. During the past 35 years, his research and teaching have focused on the maritime history and archeology of the Americas. In 2001, he and his wife Kathleen published “Angel Gabriel, the Elusive English Galleon,” about the ship that wrecked near Colonial Pemaquid in 1635 and his search for it.

Riess’ program will cover the successful self-publication of the book and also describe starting a separate business based on an invention. Kathleen is an artist and the invention, Artist’s Air, collects air at the artist’s easel, filters out the pollutants and returns clean air to the studio.

Guests are always welcome. Suggested donation is $5, $3 for MMW members. For more information, visit or contact Carol Jaeger at or 563-8377.
