On Saturday, March 6, everyone is invited to a much-needed Tropical Getaway that will raise some much-needed funds for the Humane Society of Knox County. The fun event will run from 5 to 9 p.m. at Lincoln Street Center for Arts and Education, 24 Lincoln St.

Steeling’ Thunder, the Midcoast’s community steel drum band, will drive the festivities, which will include a limbo contest, hula-hooping, a sandbox to run through barefoot and a silent auction. Attendees can listen to the sounds of the Caribbean, as the band plays all kinds of music on traditional steel drums.

There will be a fabulous spread of food including lobster rolls, and beer and wine will be available for a donation. Sponsors include Warren True Value, Kennebec Pharmacy & Home Care, Thomaston Place Auction Galleries, Hoch Roofing, Dominos, State of Maine Cheese and more.

There will be prizes for the best Caribbean costume/outfit, so everyone should feel free to dress up for this family-style event and shake off the mid-winter doldrums.

Tickets will be $10 at the door, available ahead of time by calling Tracy Sala at 594-4897. The Humane Society of Knox County currently provides animal support services to 22 towns in Knox and Waldo counties. Since 1991, the society has operated a shelter located between the Dexter Street Extension and Buttermilk Lane in Thomaston.
