A Belfast taxi cab driver has been summoned for leaving the scene of an accident and later lying to police after he reportedly hit a bicyclist Feb. 27.

Police received a report at about 6:40 p.m. that a 15-year-old boy had been hit by a cab, owned by Little Mans Taxi, while riding his bike on Chickadee Circle. The boy rode into the path of the taxi, according to police. The teen was not seriously injured.

After the boy was hit, the cab driver, Kevin D. Hooper, 42, of Belfast, stopped to see if the teen was okay before driving away, according to police. When the boy told his mother what happened, she contacted police.

When police contacted Hooper to write out a statement, he lied on the form, Belfast Police Chief Jeff Trafton said.

As a result, Hooper was charged with leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and also with unsworn falsification.
