A minivan was totaled March 2 after the vehicle went down an embankment and rolled over.

At about 8:30 a.m., Anita Murphy, 31, of Belfast was headed east toward Stockton Springs on East Main Street (Route 1) in a 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan when two witnesses reported the van crossed the center line and struck the ditch on the opposite side of the road, according to Searsport Police Chief Dick LaHaye.

The vehicle then went down an embankment and hit a large culvert, which caused the vehicle to roll over, LaHaye said.

The crash occurred near Cook’s Crossing.

LaHaye, who did not know the extent of Murphy’s injuries, said she was talking at the scene and that she indicated she was in a little bit of pain. LaHaye said he did not know whether Murphy was wearing her seat belt or not.

Murphy was taken by Searsport Ambulance to Waldo County General Hospital in Belfast.

Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $6,500.
