“Why Are We in Afghanistan?” is a crucial question for people in Maine to answer, and it also is the name of a film that will be screened Wednesday, March 17 at 6 p.m. in the Abbott Room of Belfast Free Library, 106 High St.

A second film, “Enemies of Happiness,” about Malalai Joy, the Afghani woman who was elected to her country’s legislature at age 28, also will be shown. A discussion about the United State’s involvement in Afghanistan will follow.

The first film is a brief educational review of U.S. relations with this war-torn country. “Enemies of Happiness” will provide a more personal look at the Afghan people through the eyes of one woman and her struggles for her nation’s freedom.

Both films are sponsored by the Peace and Justice Group of Waldo County and are part of its monthly community forum. There is no admission cost, although donations are welcome. For more information, call 338-5089.
