The Troy Howard Middle School ecology/garden students are displaying their laminated montages in a show called “Award Winning Heirloom Vegetables” all this month at the Belfast Co-op, 123 High St.
Under the guidance of art teacher Lynette Sproch, the students drew enlarged images of heirloom vegetables from pieces of an heirloom vegetable calendar, finished them in oil pastels and organized them for lamination to create wonderful garden festivals of colors.
The THMS Garden Project also is the focus of this month’s “Learning to Grow, In the Garden with Troy Howard Middle School,” a show of documentary photography by Jennifer Smith-Mayo at Belfast Free Library, 106 High St. Both shows coincide with the March Eat Local Challenge. More information about the challenge can be found at the Belfast Co-op and online at belfast.coop.
