Miles Maiden, CEO of Hydro-Photon, and Will Taylor, president of Elscott Manufacturing, presented first-run Maine-made SteriPEN Defender handheld water purifiers to Corporal John MacDonald of the Maine Warden Service recently at the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.

Also receiving first-run products at the donation ceremony was Laura Corbett, the Faith Evangelical Free Church Missions Team Coordinator, who received them for the church’s medical mission to Haiti.

Democratic Second District U.S. Congressman Michael Michaud, who attended the donation ceremony, facilitated the donation to the Maine Warden Service.

Maiden said: “We are pleased to present these Maine-made SteriPEN units to these organizations and to mark this important development in our growth. We are confident that U.S. production of SteriPEN can support our military customers. With the help of our Maine officials like Congressman Michaud, this is an important start towards economically produced product that fills an important role in our global business.

“When I started Hydro-Photon, I wanted to produce SteriPEN locally, but it just wasn’t economically feasible. With Elscott’s help we are able to meet our cost targets and I look forward to working with them to build this important part of our business.”

Taylor said: “With the current situation in the job market, job creation is a major factor within the state of Maine. This is a good example of two Maine-based companies working together to bring jobs to Downeast Maine. We look forward to being part of this endeavor of SteriPEN in the military and, as it grows further, to serve the many markets that require personal water purification.”

Michaud also spoke, saying, “This is another great example of the type of generosity that exists all over Maine. The Maine Warden Service and the volunteers in Haiti do amazing work, and there is no doubt that this donation will help them in their missions.”

SteriPEN handheld water purifier products use ultraviolet light to disrupt the DNA of microbes in seconds. Without functional DNA, microbes like viruses, bacteria, giardia and cryptosporidium cannot reproduce or make you sick. With just a click of a button SteriPEN can purify 16 ounces of water in 48 seconds or 32 ounces in 90 seconds.

Maine Warden Service Cpl. John MacDonald said, “The Maine Warden Service is grateful to Congressman Michaud for facilitating this donation. In the recent past, members of the Maine Warden Service have contracted water-borne illnesses while working in Maine’s back country. We plan to distribute this product to game wardens for use in situations where potable water supplies may be questionable.”

Located in Blue Hill, SteriPEN products are purifying water for customers in over 60 countries.
