The Waldo County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a suspect in an armed robbery that allegedly occurred at the Patterson Store in Burnham Friday night.

Shortly after 6 p.m. March 5, a male clerk at the store told police that a man wearing a dark-colored stocking mask and a green military fatigue jacket had walked into the store, approached the counter and brandished a long rifle, demanding cash, according to Chief Deputy Bob Keating.

The man, who was given cash, left on foot heading up Winnecook Road, Keating said. The chief deputy did not disclose how much cash the man was given.

The man is described as 5 feet, 10 inches tall and about 160 pounds.

Two clerks were working at the time and there were no other customers in the store during the incident. There were no injuries.

In addition to Waldo County deputies, Maine State Police, Pittsfield and Clinton police officers also helped to search for the man. A State Police K-9 tracked the suspect for a short distance, both on and off the road, but lost the scent, Keating said.

Detective Merl Reed and Sgt. Dale Brown of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the case. Anyone with information can contact the Sheriff’s Office at 338-2040. Callers may remain anonymous.
