On Sunday, March 14 at noon, at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Belfast, percussionist and musician Matt Meyers will lead a workshop entitled, “Drumming and Spirituality.” The workshop will last for 1-1/2 hours and will cost $10 per person.

“Drumming and Spirituality” is a chance for people of all skill levels to participate in hands-on rhythm-making. The group will experience the spirituality of community music-making through different activities, stories, games and discussions as well as looking at how rhythm and music intersect with Unitarian Universalist values.

Meyers is a graduate of Boston’s Berklee College of Music and has studied abroad in Cuba, Ghana and Central America. He plays with several world music bands in Boston, where he lives. Meyers is also a Unitarian Universalist, has led hundreds of UU services for congregations across the country and is involved in creating the Lucy Stone Cooperative, a UU housing cooperative, as well as a center for social justice in the Boston area.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own drums if possible. Drums will be provided for those who don’t have one.

The Unitarian Universalist Church of Belfast is at 37 Miller St., just behind the Belfast Free Library. For more information, contact Dan Kirchoff at 763-4134 or e-mail doodles@tidewater.net.
