The Waldo County Extension Association invites applications for a $500 scholarship available to a graduating Waldo County high school senior who seeks to pursue higher education.

To apply for the scholarship, students must submit a 500- to 1000-word essay, which must be typed and double-spaced, that discusses in what ways they have been involved with the University of Maine Cooperative Extension, their employment history, as well as any community service or volunteer work related to their future field of study, and what they hope to do after completing their education. Preference will be given to students who intend to serve the community in fields associated with the mission of the University of Maine Cooperative Extension such as agriculture, horticulture, home economics, nutrition, preventive health, health education, youth development, early childhood education and adult education.

Evaluation criteria do not include student performance records or GPA information. This is a purposeful decision in order to include those deserving applicants who may not have the best grades but are dedicated and hardworking, and may not have access to scholarships that focus strictly on academic performance.

Students should visit and click on Waldo County Extension Association Scholarship under Waldo County News & Info for complete information.

The deadline for scholarship applications is May 7.
