By a three-to-one margin, voters here rejected a poll question March 8 asking if they wanted to hire a town administrator.

While 31 people were in favor of hiring a town administrator, 93 were opposed to the idea.

As Selectman Brian Thompson had explained previously, the issue was placed on the ballot by selectmen after they had heard from some people in town who were interested in seeing Swanville hire a town administrator. Thompson said selectmen had also done some research of their own before placing the question on the ballot.

March 9, following the vote, Thompson said that if residents keep mentioning the idea, the town may put the question out to voters again sometime in the future.

Also Monday, incumbent Selectman Robert Bernosky was re-elected to a three-year term after garnering 67 votes, while challenger Ricky Collins received 50.

Planning Board member Robert Hatch was re-elected to a five-year term after defeating challenger John Blanchard, 60-44.

In uncontested races, Helen M. Christianson was re-elected to one-year terms as treasurer and excise tax collector with 121 votes. She also received 120 votes to be re-elected as town clerk, also for a one-year term. Laurie C. Johnson garnered 123 votes to be re-elected to a one-year term as real estate tax collector.

The town meeting continues March 9 at 7 p.m. (tonight) at the Town Office, 6 Town House Road.
