The Waldo County YMCA announced today that UniTel has come forward with a $1,500 match to the Unity Foundation grant in support of the Y Family Triathlon Festival.

“We are very pleased with the support from UniTel, Inc.,” said Waldo County YMCA Executive Director Dale Cross. “We are anticipating 300 people to participate in this first annual event. What a wonderful opportunity to partnership with a local business. Their sponsorship will directly contribute to the success of the triathlon.”

UniTel, Inc. began in 1902 as a local telephone company with seven subscribers between Unity and Dixmont. One hundred years later, UniTel now serves more than 5,000 customers in all or part of 11 towns in Waldo, Penobscot and Kennebec counties with local service and access to long distance service, voice mail, data circuits, broadband Internet, paging and cellular services.

The Waldo County YMCA’s mission is to provide quality programs that promote physical, mental, social, and spiritual development of Waldo County children and families. In 2009, the Y distributed more than $74,000 in membership and program financial aid.
