On Sunday, March 21, Left Bank Books will welcome its fourth Winter Lyceum speaker, local veterinarian Dr. George Holmes. The talk will be at 3:30 p.m. at Left Bank Books, 21 East Main St./Route 1. The series is open to all, free of charge. Snow date is March 28.

Holmes opened his veterinary practice, Belfast’s Little River Veterinary Hospital, nearly 40 years ago. In his talk, titled Recollections of a Rural Veterinarian, Holmes will recount tales from his many years of treating local pets and making farm calls throughout the county.

A “local boy,” Holmes attended Crosby High School and the University of Maine before getting his veterinary degree at Cornell University in 1970. Since then, he has offered a welcome voice of reassurance and pair of steady healing hands in countless animal emergencies. He has a wealth of anecdotes to inspire and provoke a good laugh about all kinds of pets (and their anxious owners).
