Robert L. Gannon, 85, died March 11, 2010, at his home.

Mr. Gannon was born in Yarmouth July 20, 1924, a son of Lewis A. and Phyllis B. (Smiley) Gannon. He had resided in Londonderry for the past eight years, having formerly lived in Liberty and previously Londonderry.

Mr. Gannon served with the Army during World War II and was a Purple Heart recipient. During the late 1940s and early 1950s he played basketball in Derry, N.H., with the Derry Jets. He was a member of St. Mark’s Lodge 44 AF & AM, and the American Legion Lester Chase Post 9, both of Derry, and the Disabled American Veterans. While a member of the Derry Rotary Club, he was past president and a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow award.

He is survived by his wife, Beth L. (Ingalls) Gannon, of Londonderry, N.H.; two daughters, Linda A. Venne and her husband, David, of Poland and Judy Evans and her husband, Charlie, of Londonderry, N.H.; three grandchildren, Lori and Mark Evans and Nathan Venne; and two cousins, William S. Gannon and Elizabeth Blunk.

Following cremation, a memorial service will be held Saturday, March 20 at 1:30 p.m. at the Peabody Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry, N.H. Family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. prior to the service. Memorial donations may be made the the VA Medical Center, 718 Smyth Road, Manchester, NH 03104.
