The Belfast Free Library chess team competed at the Scholastic State Chess Team Championship at the University of Maine in Orono March 6. All three teams did extremely well in the Novice Division. The high school team got a first-place trophy, the Junior High Team and the K-6 elementary team both brought back second-place trophies.

Congratulations to all team members from Chess Coach Russell Kahn and Manager Jane Thompson, and special congratulations go to Patrick Thayer and Clayton Clemments, who won all their games with a 4.0. Thayer received the individual top high school player trophy with less time on the clock for his games.
