M. Evelyn “Evie” Nelson, 85, died at her residence April 4, 2010.

She was born in Newburyport, Mass., Feb. 4, 1925, the daughter of Jacob and Bertha (Makela) Djerf. Evie and her husband pastored many churches in Maine and Long Island. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and worked with the Wings of Love program. Evie was active in volunteer work with hospital chaplaincy, and enjoyed walking and swimming.

She was predeceased by her parents and her husband, the Rev. Foster R. Nelson.

Survivors include four children, Susan Greeley and her husband, Edwin, of Morrill, Douglas E. Nelson of Belfast, Mark L. Nelson of Fort White, Fla., and Rebekah Tucker and her husband Christopher, of South Casco; a brother, James Djerf, of Hampton, N.H.; two grandsons, James Greeley and Todd Greeley; two step-grandchildren, Jerry and Chrissy; three great-grandsons, Zachary, Aidan and Jacob; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial visiting hours will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a service at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 10, at Morrill Baptist Church. Family and friends are invited to join in a gathering in the fellowship hall immediately following the service.
