Belfast Poet Laureate Linda Buckmaster will be guest poet at the next meeting of Poetry Downeast Wednesday, April 14 from 7 to 9 p.m. at The Maine Grind Café & Coffee Bar, 192 Main St.

Buckmaster has lived within a block of the Atlantic most of her life, having grown up in Florida and living in Midcoast Maine for more than 30 years. She currently works for Women, Work and Community and is an adjunct faculty member in communication in the University of Maine System. She has published three chapbooks of poetry, the most recent of which, “Heart Song & Other Legacies,” took Honorable Mention in the 2006 Maine Writers & Publishers Alliance annual contest in the self-published category.

Buckmaster’s work has appeared in Animus, Bangor Metro, California Quarterly, the “di-Verse-city” anthology, Earth’s Daughters, Off The Coast, UU World and Words & Images. One of her poems was read on Garrison Keillor’s “Writers Almanac” radio show.

Poetry Downeast at The Grind meets once a month and is an open, free, casual forum for poets and enthusiasts. There is an open reading, where anyone may participate; a guest poet of some stature is usually featured for a longer reading and discussion of poetic topics.
