Belfast native graduates from the University of Southern Maine

Andrew Smith of Belfast graduated cum laude in December 2009 from the University of Southern Maine with a bachelor’s degree in political science. As part of his undergraduate work, he studied Arabic and political science for 1 1/2 years at the American University of Cairo.

Currently, he is living in Amman, Jordan, teaching English at the American Community School and studying Arabic. Smith recently became a grant-writing intern with the Center for the Defense of Freedom of Journalism.
