In 2009, Montville resident Susie O’Keeffe set out to discover what we have to learn from grizzly bears and other carnivores. She is inspired by the writings of many authors; including naturalist Barry Lopez, who said, “The question before us is how do we find a viable natural philosophy, one that places us again within the elements of our natural history.”

O’Keeffe draws on experiences from her seven-month exploration into grizzlies’ world and the people who are learning to coexist with them. Her talk will include photos from Alaska’s Katmai National Park and a presentation on the roles that intuition, emotion, contemplation and self-awareness play in transforming our relationship with other animals and the earth.

Her presentation will take place on Thursday, April 22 at 7 p.m. at Waterfall Arts in Belfast, 256 High St.

O’Keeffe has more than 20 years of experience doing environmental work ranging from international environmental policy to grassroots program development and wilderness conservation.

The event, being sponsored by the Sheepscot Wellspring Land Alliance, is free, but donations are appreciated.
